Meet Jonathan Harper

Hey, I’m Jonathan, the heart behind Flake Recipes. My passion for cooking started in my childhood kitchen, where I watched family meals come together with love, laughter, and the occasional flour fight. I’ve cooked in restaurants, written recipes, burned a few cookies along the way, and most importantly, learned that food is about people.

In early 2025, after decades in the food world, I launched Flake Recipes with a single goal: to bring real, tested recipes to real kitchens. No AI shortcuts, no confusing steps, just comforting, flavorful dishes you’ll want to make again and again.

What Makes Flake Recipes Different?

  • Tried and Tested Recipes – If it’s on the site, it’s been made, tweaked, and perfected.
  • Step-by-Step Simplicity – Clear instructions, real ingredients, no guesswork.
  • Helpful Kitchen Tips – Ingredient swaps, storage tricks, and make-ahead advice.
  • A Personal Touch – Every recipe has a backstory. I tell you where it came from and why it matters.
  • A Real Community – I love hearing from readers, swapping ideas, and sharing your kitchen wins.

Our Values at Flake Recipes

  • Authenticity – No fluff, no filler. Just recipes that work and taste great.
  • Joy in Cooking – Whether it’s a one-pot wonder or your grandma’s pie, it should be fun.
  • Learning Together – We try, fail, tweak, and try again. That’s cooking.
  • Trust – If I wouldn’t serve it to my family, you won’t find it here.

The Story Behind the Blog

Flake Recipes began after I found an old recipe box tucked in the back of a kitchen drawer, my mother’s handwriting, faded but fierce, still guiding me. Her note inside read, “The best food isn’t perfect. It’s made with heart.” That’s the soul of this blog.

I started posting recipes that I grew up with, meatloaf on Sundays, casseroles that feed a crowd, weeknight meals that save your sanity. Soon, readers shared their own memories. A grandmother in Texas sent me her famous cornbread. A single mom in Ohio thanked me for the ‘Lazy Day Lasagna.’ And that’s when I knew, this was more than a blog. It was a kitchen table we all gather around.
